Cyberpunk 2077 Confirmed to Have Adjustable Subtitles

Cyberpunk 2077 is an incredibly anticipated title from CD Projekt Red, but over the years I’ve had concerns about the size of the subtitles since the early demo videos. More recently, players have had the same concerns, and last week a brand-new screenshot appeared online which also showed the subtitles at their default size.

The screenshot shows the player sat at a diner having a conversation with Kirk, a bloke reading a magazine or newspaper of sorts. However, the subtitles are tucked away at the bottom, heavily stylized, thin, and blend into the background. This style has been consistent across all recent videos, particularly the Night City Wire videos that have recently been live-streamed.

Despite my numerous attempts to find out about the state of subtitles, and noticing the image uploaded last week, we finally have a very bare-bones answer.

Twitter user “AuldShaneGamer” made a complaint, as have many others, about the readability of the subtitles. The Cyberpunk 2077 account replied confirming that players will be able to adjust the color and size. However, no further information was given. So it’s unclear if you’ll be able to use sliders to adjust, or add a background, or make them bigger than big.

At least we have an answer, no matter how lacking it is. CIPT has reached out to CD Projekt Red to see if we can get any additional information regarding the state of subtitles and we’ll let you know if we learn anything new.

Cyberpunk 2077 is slated to launch this year for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It’ll also be heading to Xbox Series X and PS5.
