Inclusivity for Creatives

Can I Play That is excited to offer a diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility workshop designed for the unique needs of the games industry. The workshop is a one day, three-hour-long workshop designed for game writers. The workshop will include conversations and exercises to examine our own biases, as well as writing exercises to promote more inclusive and diverse character creation, narrative design, and world building. Many exercises are inspired by the studio’s existing works for continuity and efficacy.

Why DEIA with CIPT?

  • Current DEI training and workshops are designed to address internal issues. CIPT’s workshop will teach game writers how to incorporate greater inclusion and diversity into their work, allowing studios to:
    -produce a better product
-foster diversity and inclusion internally and
-encourage diversity and inclusion externally, with studio customers.
  • Most workshops and conversations about inclusion fail to include disability.
  • Most workshops and conversations about DEI only consider the workplace.
  • Some DEI workshops try to offer one-size-fits-all solutions. Ours is bespoke to this industry and game writers’ needs.
  • Courtney has years of community management experience through Can I Play That and is very familiar with the inner workings and needs of game studios and developers, as well as experience working with the disabled community. Yi Shun has a certificate in diversity and inclusion from eCornell. She has helped creatives of all levels to foster better inclusion in their work and has helped with DEI efforts in higher-education institutions, humanitarian aid organizations, literary organizations, and retailers.
