Accessibility update to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 delayed

Yesterday, Insomniac Games announced on X (Twitter) that their planned December update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is delayed. This might be disappointing news for the players waiting for the accessibility features this update is promised to bring to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Hey Web-Heads,

We have some news about the next game update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. We know players have been eagerly awaiting features such as New Game+ and Audio Descriptions, among many more. We have been working vigilantly on these features and require more testing to ensure the quality is up to our standards.

We are now targeting Early 2024 for the next game update, and we’ll have a feature-complete list closer to its release. We’ve heard your feedback and will be adding some highly requested features, including the ability to change the time of day, swap tendril colors, and replay missions – just to name a few!

We can’t wait to share more with you in the future. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience as our team works to finish our next update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2!

Thanks,

Pre-launch announcement of post-launch plans

As we reported in an earlier news article about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the update should bring several accessibility features to the game. Several of these features are invaluable to blind players.

First of these are audio descriptions. Insomniac worked together with Descriptive Video Works for this feature describing the visuals in cinematics and even QTEs. Players will be able to separately set the volume for audio descriptions. Additionally a screen reader is planned, narrating tutorials, menus, and more. Players can also customize several aspects of the screen reader. This delay most likely means blind players will have to wait longer before they can play.

Additionally captions for non-dialogue sound in cinematics and key audio moments in gameplay would be included in the updates. These captions are customizable separately from subtitles, allowing players to change size, color, and background color and opacity.

While it is disappointing to learn of delays like these, it is good to remember the hard work that goes into these features. We will share more news when we learn more about this update in 2024.
