The 2022 edition of the GAconf Accessibility Awards will premiere on YouTube this week. The show, hosted by Steve Saylor, will be a celebration of the past year’s accessibility advances from indie to AAA, from development, to research, and journalism.

In a previous news item we elaborated on the categories and nominees of the GAconf Awards 2022. This list of nominees, together with links to information motivating the nominations, is also available at the awards page on the GAconf website. To present each award, Steve is joined by a host of accessibility stars you probably have heard of before. You can expect to see and hear SightlessKombat, Phil Spencer (Xbox), Paul Amadeus Lane, David Tisserand (Ubisoft), Jay Justice, Morgan Baker (EA), Chris ‘DeafGamersTV’ Robinson, Améliane Chiasson (Eidos Montréal), Mark Friend (Sony Interactive Entertainment), and Dr. Mick Donegan (SpecialEffect).

An accessible event

Of course, accessibility of the event itself is a priority. Viewers (and listeners) will be able to access audio description for blind viewers, signing in both ASL and BSL, and subtitling in English, French, German, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese.

You can tune in to watch the show on Wednesday, January 25th at 9am PST (12pm ET, 5pm GMT) on the IGDA-GASIG YouTube channel. The same channel that also hosts the many valuable accessibility talks from the Game Accessibility Conferences themselves. The IGDA-GASIG Discord server will also host an official watch party.
